5 tips how you can prepare for board exams
Prepare time table for board exams
Procrastination and missing deadlines are very easy to do, but the result hurts a lot. You should not take time for granted because time is the most valuable thing that any one has in life. And success comes to those who manage and use time at the best. Scoring a good mark is very easy if you handle the time well. So, how to prepare a time table for board exams for achieving excellent marks.
On an average a student spent at least 6-7 hour in the school, 3-4 hours in coaching or tuitions. And there is about 5-6 hours remaining for self-study. 3 hours of studies on a daily basis is more than enough for a student to score good marks in board examinations.
Hey! Then what about the entrance examination? Look if you are from cbse board then you don’t need to worry a lot about the medical and engineering entrances. Because almost all the questions are coming from ncert pattern. You need to add an extra hour for practicing the numerical and MCQ. And if you are from the state board, no need to worry because almost 95% of the syllabus is the same as the ncert syllabus. And you need to do an extra job once or twice in a month to see which topic is there in the entrance exam and which is not in the entrance exam. it might not take that much time.
Here we provide two types of time table which you can adjust according to your need
Table 1
sl.no | Subject | Time daily | Time weekend | entrance | Weekly target |
1 | math/biology | 45 minutes | 1 hour | 1 hour | 1 topic |
2 | physics | 45 minutes | 1 hour | 1 hour | 1 topic |
3 | chemistry | 45 minutes | 1 hour | 1 hour | 1 topic |
4 | optional-1 | 0 | 2 hours | 1 topic
5 | optional-2 | 0 | 2 hours | 1 topic
6 | revision | 45 minutes | 2 hours |
Table 2
Days | Subject | Time | Target | Entrance |
monday | math/biology | 3 hours | 50% of topic | 1 hour |
tuesday | physics | 3 hours | 50% of topic | 1 hour |
wednesday | chemistry | 3 hours | 50% of topic | 1 hour |
Thursday | math/biology | 3 hours | 50% of topic | 1 hour |
friday | physics | 3 hours | 50% of topic | 1 hour |
saturday | chemistry | 3 hours | 50% of topic | 1 hour |
sunday | Optional-1 & 2 | 4 hours | 1 topic | 2-3 hours |
The above two tables are rough estimations you might need more than a week to complete a topic. So be flexible to make any changes in the time table.
Which book should a student prefer to study
Any board does not put questions outside the syllabus or the book they recommend. It has been said to study those books only which your board is preferring. It is not a good idea to completely rely on reference books. Because there are a lot of extra information in the reference books that are not required as such in exams. And you might miss some important portions of the topic.
A student under cbse board must follow ncert and the state board must prefer the state board book. If you get some extra hours then after you should study reference books.
Absorbs as much knowledge from school and coaching
Most of the students spend almost 50-60% of the day in school and tuition. To get the best out of it by making good notes and absorbing as much knowledge as you can. Because if you will be making notes in self study time then there will be no more time to study those notes.
The one big difference between the top scorer and other students is they are attentive and make notes in class . So, be attentive in the class and take good notes on each topic.
How to be attentive in class
I know that it is obvious that your mind may wander here and there, this happens to me too. Unfocused attention is most likely to miss some important information or concepts that might come in the exam. But to get focus back on class try to ask some questions to the teacher, making notes and participating in the topic. This way you will be attentive in the class.
Why is it important to take notes in class
The importance of making notes in class is you will be attentive in the class at first. And later it will help you in revision. It has been said, writing is the best way to absorb information faster compared to reading.
You may ask how to make the best notes in class, as it is difficult to maintain the pace with the teacher. You can use multi color pens and use bullet points which will help you to make notes faster and understand the information later. Remember, best notes is the first step to score higher in the exams.
Study like a pro
There is nothing called a pro, it is all about consistency. The toppers score higher than others because they study every day for 2-3 hours. You can’t score good marks just by studying the night before the exam.
The reason I tell you to take the notes in the class is because it will fit the way you understand the concept in the class. The way you learn the concept will help you revise the concept faster. Sometimes teachers make you understand the difficult concept in a simpler way and make you write the notes in easy format. This format will be easier to revise later.
Humans are very sensitive to sound. There is a very good chance that your brain will remember some concept when you pay full attention to lectures. Use this listening skill to excel on the exam.
Mnemonics and jargons
There are many terms in the topics which are very difficult to understand and memorize. To make this easier you can use Mnemonics. Mnemonics are the memory tricks that help us to remember the difficult topics, tables, categories, etc. The most common example for the use of mnemonics is in memorizing the periodic table and its properties. You can create your own mnemonics or search online or ask teachers if you find any difficulty in memorizing a concept.
You can use jargon in biology while memorizing the biological classifications. Mnemonics help us to understand and remember the concept faster.
Practice the sample paper for board exam
The best way to test how much you have understood the topics is via giving sample tests. The sample test should be based on the syllabus. So, try to solve the previous year questions because they are from the same syllabus. And you will be able to find which topic needs special focus and which are the topics where the questions come the most.
Always use this approach while taking the test, complete the easier part first and then move to the difficult part. This will help you manage the time.
Conclusions
All the above tips are useless to score good marks if you are unable to execute it. There will be more blogs on the internet which will provide better guidance than us. Teachers and mentors will be providing all the things that make you score 90%. But here is the most difficult part, the execution. You need to execute these tips, there is no shortcut or mnemonics for execution. It completely depends on your willpower to show up every day and learn.
